Day 1

The first day in Vietnam was crazy. Even though we saw a youtube video on traffic, nothing could have prepared me for rush hour. It was amazing to see so many motorbikes darting in between lanes. It really seems like they don't have any traffic laws at all, I have no idea how I didn't witness any accidents. Our first day of school at the University of Economics and Finance started out really awkward. We all were supposed to sing a Michael Jackson song as an ice breaker, which was really weird in my opinion, but it was fine once the class started. My partner's name was dung, which is not pronounced as it sounds haha. We talked via google translator, which was so interesting. She has never been away from her family or outside of the country. So she was very interested on what it is like to be away. The class itself was really hard. I don't think Ill ever be able to pronounce all those vowels right. After class we went to the a grocery store. Everything was so cheap! Beer was less than 50 cents a can. I wish we had those kind of prices back home. The trip to the Reunification Palace was really interesting. It was really interesting to see the war from their perspective. Then the trip to the US consulate was very interesting as well. It was cool to learn so much about what their job entails. The food here has been amazing thus far. Our dinner last night was so good. Can't wait to see what day two brings.
